Today I finally finished my platinum piece for the PlatAfrica. I am mostly happy with it. Thank you to everyone for being do patient and accommodating. 

PlatAfrica

For the platinum competition I was experimenting with repousse, I know technically it's not repousse but I was able to achieve a similar effect through fly pressing the metal. This is done by piecing out a die/stencil and placing the sheet of metal behind the die and compressing two pieces of wood and rubber to force the metal through into the die. 

Anglo platinum

While I was looking up details on the PlatAfrica design competition.Look at what I found on the PlatAfrica website! I don't remember being told that It was up on the website, this was a pleasant surprise. I also saw six more DUT student participant pieces on the website.

Finished piece

Finally finished my piece for the AngloPlat competition, last week Thursday. I was Happy with my piece, I had a bit of a scare when it was brought to my attention that I had forgotten to stamp my piece.The problem was fixed and all was well got it into the packaging and filled in all the forms, allthe stress done.......until next year

Anglo progess

Here is the African blackwood shak for my AngloPlat design, The wood has not been polished yet. Over all I am more happy with this one than I was the Previous, It's slimmed down and less "chunky" thanks to friendly advice from peers and lecturers. Just have to weigh it and that's that for the wood work for now.

ANgloProgress

It's coming along, just roughly shaped the Ring part of the piece. Need to make some Adjustments, but other than that I hope you're getting the idea as it materialises. At the moment It is looking disproportionate but the platinum piece having to be bigger is one of the adjustments I mentioned. The Platinum Version will be featuring an African blackwood shank which will create a very nice contrast.

AngloPlat

I finally came to a design that I'm happy with, I will start on the prototype tomorrow. It does capture my original idea of of A Zulu ax on display, the "stand" serves as a display when taken off the finger. It almost looks like a sword on display too, but I will get cracking and see how I feel about it when it's in my hand

These are some pieces I was working with for the AngloPlat competition, I was drawing inspiration from the axes of Africa. The are forged and each tribe has it's shape of Ax, my favorite at the moment seem to be the two on the left of the screen
